I'm an artist, writer, illustrator, and designer, with a specialty in hand lettering. Always chasing better ways to tell stories. Creative professional with an engineering education. Recovering usefulness addict. Big on mystery and wonder, Mountain Dew Rise, and organizing. Not so big on raisins.
I'm a Pennsylvania kid at heart, born in Pittsburgh but raised in Philly (go Birds etc etc). I got a dual Bachelors & Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University, something I achieved a bit by accident, a bit through sheer determination, and a bit with a little help from my friends.
I drew and designed things in whatever free time I could wrangle through that experience, and pivoted instantly thereafter into the graphic design world, during which time I learned that lettering was a particular passion and skill.
After cutting my teeth with the world's best Creative Services team at the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia two blocks from City Hall, I moved to Sheridan, Wyoming to work at Only Co. and fulfill my dreams of being a Design Cowboy — which I'm currently seeing through sartorially, between my Joe Pickett-approved Stetson Open Road and Ariat Rawly boots.
I regularly post my art on Instagram, lettering (@dandrawnwords) and otherwise (@danly.art). Offline, I can be found hiking in the Bighorn Mountains, enjoying solo restaurant meals in cool cities, and attempting to read too many books at once.
Additional details can be elicited through the grabbing of a coffee or a beer in your area.
My core mission is to "be wonderful to people," a statement that integrates the Christian call to love my neighbor with the practical exercise of creating, inspiring, and sharing various forms of goodness and delight. It's most rewarding for me to make things that are encouraging and engaging, that inspire people to slow down and embrace the beauty that exists all around and within them.
Currently a freelance designer at Destiny Kid Labs, a developing brand that's focused on design and lettering art for storytelling industries — merch, titling, logomarks, and more — because great storytelling takes great design. More to come!
I'm also the lead artist for Go Fast Don't Die, an open-road, moto-inspired lifestyle & apparel brand that's all about community and contribution. (Formerly Chief Creative Officer at sister brand Only Co., a Sheridan-based business building company for industrial businesses and skilled trades.)
